Armour / Burk’s Falls / Ryerson Arena Upgrades Set to Go Ahead!!

February 17, 2007

Thanks to the hard work of the ‘Our Community Works’ fundraising and awareness campaign, the upgrades required for the Armour / Burk’s Falls / Ryerson arena in Burk’s Falls will be going ahead, starting as soon as next month.  Quinan Construction out of Orillia has been awarded the contract, with costs for upgrades and enhancements set at $1.36-million.  The upgrades will include year-round ice, which could be available as early as July 2007.  Our Community Works has raised the majority of this money, and the three municipal governments (Townships of Armour and Ryerson and the Town of Burk’s Falls) will contribute the remaining $540,000 required.  Thanks to all Three Mile Lakers who contributed to the campaign!

Some members of the TMLCC are interested in renting the ice on a regular basis over the summer.  How about a game of pick-up hockey on a summer day, followed by a swim in the lake?!  How’s that for a unique summer experience?!  We are considering booking the ice for one hour each weekend, with those who would like to come out ‘paying as they play’.  This could be pick-up hockey or simply a family skate, depending on the level of interest.  It is expected that summer ice will be grabbed up quickly by the clubs looking to run summer camps.

Anyone interested in using the ice with the TMLCC should send an email to 3milelake@cogeco.ca , or contact Rod Ward (Rod.Ward@cogeco.ca, or 382-1440).  Please indicate what you would be interested in most (i.e. pick-up hockey, free skating), and the times that would work best for you between July 1 and Labour Day.
